Imagine walking by and noticing a stuffed animal wiggling in a basket. No, it’s not some weird magic or a scene from a horror movie. It’s actually a funny and heartwarming story from Kentucky!
Kentucky’s very own animal expert, Brigette Brouillard, was the first to spot this unusual movement. At first, she couldn’t believe her eyes, but soon enough, the truth behind the movement had her laughing.
Yeti’s Favorite Hideout
Brigette Brouillard, who runs the Second Chances Wildlife Center in Louisville, Kentucky, is no stranger to caring for wild creatures. Since 2009, her center has been a haven for injured or orphaned animals such as bats, skunks, raccoons, and squirrels, providing them a second chance at life.
Among the permanent residents at the center is a unique leucistic opossum named Yeti. Yeti was severely injured after a car accident, suffering from a road rash, a damaged eye, broken jaw, and neurological problems. Despite her tough start, Yeti quickly adapted to her new home.
One day, Brigette noticed one of the stuffed animals in a basket seemed to be moving on its own. Upon closer inspection, she discovered Yeti hiding among the plush toys, making herself comfortable in what seemed like an impossible spot for her to reach.
Enjoying Her Cozy Home
Despite her initial injuries, Yeti has flourished under the care of the wildlife center. She’s gained weight, overcome fleas and infections, and has fully acclimated to her new surroundings. Due to her disabilities, Yeti can’t return to the wild, so the center has become her permanent home where she’s lovingly taken care of.
Every day, Yeti seems happier and more content. She loves exploring the center and mingling with her new friends, both animal and human. Yeti has a special love for fruits, which she gets plenty of at the center, and has found several favorite spots for naps—including a cozy basket of toys and even the shoes of her caregivers!
Although she’s not keen on being held, Yeti is one of the gentlest souls at the rehab center. She recognizes her caregivers and enjoys her time out and about.

Living at the Second Chances Wildlife Center, Yeti enjoys a life of comfort and safety she deeply needed. Her story is not just about survival but thriving with care and love in a special environment tailored to her needs.
Brigette and her team continue their mission to help more animals like Yeti, providing them with a second chance at life and a lot of love. Their efforts remind us of the difference compassion and care can make in the lives of animals.
