Imagine being so alone and abandoned that you don’t even know who you are. Sadly, this is a common plight for many dogs who wander the streets for years, unnoticed and uncared for.
Dogs’ Deep Connection with Humans
By their very nature, dogs form deep attachments to humans. However, without anyone to care for them, these dogs can become so neglected that they are hardly recognizable. Try to picture the inner turmoil these dogs must feel; it mirrors their physical appearance but feels even worse.
A Heroine Steps In
Today’s story centers on a heroine who did everything within her power to assist a dog in such dire condition that its face was hardly visible due to the neglect.
Catching This Dog Seemed Impossible
In the streets of Rowan, Kentucky, a mysterious dog had been seen wandering for years. Numerous attempts had been made to rescue it, but all had failed. The dog was so neglected and its fur so matted that it was impossible to tell whether it was male or female. One day, two rescuers from STAR (Saving the Animals of Rowan) spotted the dog in a neighborhood and were determined to help this poor creature.
The First Encounter
One of the rescuers, named Penny, was particularly motivated. She believed this dog wanted to be rescued but was distrustful of people, which made it avoid any contact. Initially, Penny simply followed the dog at a distance to understand its habits and routes, making it easier for her and her colleague, Rhonda, to track it.
Building Trust
After observing the dog for three days, Penny approached it gently, allowing it to smell her and become accustomed to her presence. This was the crucial first step in building trust. Over the next few days, Penny formulated a plan to win over the wary animal.
They Somehow Managed To Gain Its Trust
Penny and Rhonda set up a kennel along the path the dog frequently used. They needed to lure the dog into the kennel, so they decided to place some chicken inside it. Despite their efforts, the dog initially resisted the temptation.
However, after placing a trail of chicken leading to the kennel, their persistence paid off. Two days later, the dog approached the kennel, enticed by the irresistible aroma of the chicken. For three days, the dog ate near the kennel but didn’t enter it. Then, on the morning of the 22nd day of their mission, Penny and Rhonda watched as the dog finally stood in front of the kennel.
The Moment of Success
With great anticipation, they waited and, at the right moment, quickly pulled a rope attached to the kennel door, which snapped shut. The dog didn’t resist, growl, or try to bite. It seemed to understand that these people were there to help, and it was clear they had successfully gained its trust.
This Dog Finally Got Its Identity, But Also A New Life
Their mission, once deemed impossible, was finally successful. The first stop was at a makeshift “Barbershop”—Penny’s house—where the dog received a much-needed haircut by Rhonda and another colleague, Laura. It was then they discovered the dog was a girl! After her transformation, she was unrecognizable, and they named her Miley.
A Forever Home
Penny, deeply moved by the 22 days she spent with Miley, chose not to just foster her but to adopt her. Miley had become so dear to her that there was no other option for Penny.
A New Member of the Family
Miley, along with two other dogs named Jack and Oscar, became a cherished member of the family. After enduring over two and a half years of hardship, Miley’s life was transformed into a beautiful fairy tale within just 22 days—a life she truly deserved.
