Meet Mya, a charming brindle Pittie with a unique way of communicating that has captivated everyone around her. This adorable rescue dog has turned the simple act of carrying her bowl into a sophisticated form of expression, revealing her needs and desires in a way that’s both endearing and clever.
A Clever Way to Communicate
Mya’s method of communication isn’t just adorable; it’s pretty smart too. Her owner, Briana Maiola, has observed that whenever Mya picks up her bowl and carries it around, she’s actually trying to send a message. Most of the time, Mya is signaling that she’s hungry and it’s time for a meal. But Mya’s use of her bowl goes beyond just expressing hunger.
According to Briana, “Mya uses bowls to communicate many needs. She makes lots of noises, wiggles like crazy, and relentlessly follows you around and stares at you.” This behavior isn’t just about getting her next meal—it’s her way of interacting with her family on a daily basis.
Sometimes, Mya will also pick up her bowl to let everyone know she needs to go outside. “She will pace to and from a window or door with a bowl and drop it at the door, making a loud clang!” Briana explains. This clear, if somewhat noisy, signal is her way of saying she needs some fresh air or a bathroom break.
A New Message for a New Audience
Recently, Mya has expanded her bowl communication to include her dog siblings, Scrappy and Kekie. This new development in her communicative repertoire occurs when Mya wants to reserve her favorite nap spot but isn’t quite ready to use it. She strategically places her bowl on the bed, a signal to her siblings that this spot is temporarily off-limits.
“We will find bowls sitting in beds, on couches, or in other cozy spots to ‘hold her place’. Mya will drop a bowl and return to the spot when she’s ready for a snooze!” said Briana. This small action not only brings joy to Briana but also sets the stage for some adorable sibling interactions.
Sibling Dynamics
The presence of the bowl usually earns the respect of Mya’s siblings, who understand the signal and find another place to relax. However, sometimes the allure of a cozy spot is too strong, and they might decide to ignore Mya’s bowl. “Most of the time, her very patient siblings will respect the bowl and find another spot to lay. But sometimes, the spot is just too good to resist and her siblings will ignore the bowl,” Briana added.
When this happens, Briana chooses not to intervene, acknowledging that the bed belongs to all of them. Fortunately, Mya doesn’t seem to mind sharing her favorite spot too much. “Mya will usually cozy up on the bed anyways. Sometimes, when it’s an especially good spot, she will give the absolute saddest expression in hopes one of us humans will clear the spot for her,” Briana stated.
Inseparable Trio
Despite these occasional minor squabbles over who gets the best spot, Mya and her siblings are inseparable. They are not just pets living under the same roof; they are best friends, attached at the hip, sharing every moment of their day.
After exhausting themselves running around the backyard, they always come together for a group nap, recharging their batteries for the next round of fun. This tight-knit bond shows just how much they value each other’s company, regardless of any small disagreements that might arise over sleeping arrangements.
A Special Member of the Family
Mya may occasionally be a drama queen, but she is an integral part of her family. Her unique personality and the innovative way she uses her bowl to communicate have taught her family so much about understanding and love. “Mya is truly a special little girl who has taught all of us so much. She’s the happiest, wiggliest, most dramatic little dog I’ve ever met. We love her so much!” Briana concluded.
Her story isn’t just about a dog with a quirky habit; it’s a testament to the deep bonds that can form between pets and their families, showing how much we can learn from our four-legged friends. Mya’s bowl-talking habit underscores her intelligence and her emotional depth, qualities that make her truly one of a kind.
