River’s Story: From Streets to Sweet Life
Meet River, a dog whose every day was a battle. Labelled “aggressive,” he faced rejection after rejection—until a compassionate family from the Pacific Northwest stepped in to turn his life around.
A Tough Beginning
Before finding his forever home, River was a stray enduring the harsh street life. Other dogs would beat him up, and he was always hunting for the next meal and a safe place to sleep. This tough life made him very reactive, a trait that initially made it hard for him to find a permanent home. He was rescued by Fur Bae Rescue, an organization that matches strays with loving families in the Pacific Northwest. At last, River found a family willing to take him in.
However, his reactiveness led to him being returned. That’s when Corinne came into his life. It was love at first sight when River approached his new mom and her family with a wagging tail and playful attitude. They knew immediately—he was a keeper.
Transformative Journey
Despite all his struggles, adopting River was incredibly rewarding. Previously, his reactive behavior was often mistaken for tantrums, but all he was really looking for was a sense of safety. With his new mom by his side, River began to unwind and learn. He started socializing, going on walks, meeting new people, and finally getting to do all the things he had missed out on. Before long, he became a completely different dog.
“It kind of started out that it felt like I was his therapist and now it feels like he’s my therapy dog,” Corinne shared with Cuddle Buddies.

In just a few months, River settled comfortably into his new home. No longer the shy, reserved dog, he became the happiest, most enthusiastic family member, constantly finding new ways to make everyone smile. His latest trick? A wiggle dance he performs whenever he meets someone new on his walks or just before meals. This adorable routine has everyone who sees it falling in love with him.
“It’s usually a stranger or someone else that brings them on so I always get the view from behind. Maybe someday he’ll get waggles for me but for now I’ll continue enjoying his uncontainable happiness,” his mom posted on Instagram.
A Life Filled with Joy and Adventure

Thanks to plenty of hard work and training, River now enjoys a life brimming with endless adventures. He’s his mom’s running partner, a mountain hiking buddy, a travel companion, and enjoys long cuddle sessions with his family. He savors every single moment spent with them.
“It was hard to see the beauty that was always there in the beginning but now I see him and will eternally love him. He is the dog I didn’t know I needed and I will spend the rest of his life being the human he needs,” Corinne reflected on Instagram.
From a reactive dog who seemed to have no one on his side, River now looks forward to a long, happy life full of love and adventures. His story is a testament to the transformative power of love and patience—showing us that even the most troubled dogs have potential for change and happiness.
