It seemed like something out of a Disney movie when a Dalmatian breeder witnessed her dog giving birth to a surprisingly large litter of puppies.
For any breeder, having a large and healthy litter is like hitting the jackpot. But managing such a big brood is no small feat—it’s quite a handful for both the pups’ mother and the breeders!
From a Few to a Family
Cecilia Langton-Bunker has spent nearly 30 years breeding dogs, focusing on nurturing top-notch Dalmatians. Her passion for the breed goes beyond business; it’s also about love.
Her breeding operation, CC Dalmatians, is known for producing many champion show dogs. This time, she and her colleague, Jade Martin, decided to pair Miley, a first-time mom, with a male named Astro Wonder Boy. They kept close tabs on Miley during her pregnancy, expecting just three puppies from the union.
However, the actual delivery was a jaw-dropper. During a long labor that surprised everyone involved—including the vets—Miley delivered not three, but eighteen puppies!
Puppy Overflow
What started as a quest for a single puppy for Jade’s daughter, Lulu, turned into a full-blown puppy fest with eighteen siblings to choose from! After Lulu picked her favorite, Cecilia made room for the others back at the kennel.
Every one of these pups was declared healthy by the vet, and while the experience was unforgettable, Cecilia and Jade agree that they wouldn’t want to put Miley through such an ordeal again, despite her proving to be an excellent mother.
Cecilia cherished her time with the litter, but eventually, all the puppies found new homes. They will always be remembered as Miley’s marvelous eighteen.
