This was the reality for a dog named JJ, who was dropped off at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, by his owner, without any explanation. Upon arrival, JJ was terrified—shivering and cowering in a corner of his kennel, an image that could break anyone’s heart.

After witnessing JJ’s distress through a video, Big Love Rescue, a compassionate organization from Cypress, Texas, decided to step in. They quickly arranged to transfer him from the shelter and find him a foster home, where he could start to heal from his traumatic experience.
When JJ first arrived at his foster home, he was still very much afraid, trembling and unsure about entering the house or exploring the yard. His foster parents, understanding his need for space, gave him time to adjust at his own pace, slowly building trust.

Initially still terrified of his new surroundings, he eventually started to relax enough to enjoy head rubs from his foster parents—a significant milestone. In his foster home, JJ revealed just how affectionate he could be. Described by Big Love Rescue as a “happy boy that wants to be next to his humans, play with his toys, and get lots of belly rubs,” JJ thrived on attention. He was great with people of all ages, adored children, and loved to snuggle. JJ was also well-behaved, responding to commands like sit, stay, lay down, and shake, and he walked well on a leash.
Finding the Perfect Forever Home
Despite his lovable nature, it took some time for JJ to find his forever home. The trauma he had experienced left him lacking confidence, needing someone who could help him fully blossom. Fortunately, after months of searching, he found a wonderful family where he could continue to thrive, alongside loving parents and a canine best friend.
