Their life took a dramatic turn when the local police found them wandering the streets of Harlem and took them to a nearby shelter. This could have been a bleak chapter for them, but fate had other plans.
Emily Steps In
Upon seeing a post about Luna and Obi on Instagram, Emily, a dedicated dog lover and experienced foster, knew she had to act. “The police picked Luna and Obi up off the street in Harlem, and I saw a post on Instagram. I thought – they don’t need to stay in the shelter, I’ll just take care of them,” Emily recounted in an interview with The Dodo.
She quickly took them into her home in New York City, starting a new and exciting chapter in their lives.
Adjusting to a New Home
Arriving at Emily’s apartment, both Luna and Obi were undernourished and desperately in need of care. Emily took it upon herself to nurse them back to health, feeding them around the clock. Gradually, they regained their strength and began to show their true personalities.
Luna, an indoor type, found comfort and peace in the cozy corners of Emily’s home. Obi, however, was more energetic and seemed to long for a more spacious environment where he could expend his boundless energy.
The Joy of Adoption
The transformation in the foster home was swift, and it wasn’t long before both dogs found their forever homes. Obi was adopted by Brian and Melissa from Albany, who already had another adult Pittie named Garcia. They fell in love with Obi instantly and were eager to welcome him into their family. “When they met him, it was clear right away. He just fit right in as if he was always meant to be part of their family,” Emily shared.
Meanwhile, Luna found her new home in the city with Mimi and Nate, a couple who had always dreamed of expanding their family with a dog. Luna’s calm demeanor and her love for following her owners around made her the perfect addition to their home.
A Heartwarming Reunion
Four months after their adoption, the parents of Luna and Obi arranged a reunion for the two. The question on everyone’s mind was whether they would remember each other after being apart for so long.
The reunion was nothing short of magical. As soon as they saw each other, Luna and Obi couldn’t contain their excitement. They ran around, played, and barked joyously, just as they had during their days on the streets. “They barked at each other for a little bit, which we kind of expected, and then they just sort of got on. They were just running around and doing zoomies and sniffing each other and barking at each other. They got along just like they were brother and sister,” Melissa described the scene.

Even though Luna and Obi now live separate lives, their bond remains as strong as ever. Their story is a testament to the fact that dogs truly don’t forget those they love. Regardless of where life takes them, they will always hold a special place for each other in their hearts.
