Rose Hunter, a resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, is known among her friends for her love of houseplants. She often visits Campbell’s Nursery, a local garden center, to indulge in her hobby. One day, her routine visit took an unexpected turn that surprised everyone.
A Surprise in the Parking Lot
On her way back from Campbell’s Nursery, located at 56th and Pine Lake in Lincoln, Rose noticed something unusual in the parking lot. At first, she mistook it for a simple oil stain on the concrete. However, upon closer inspection, she realized it was actually a small, furry object.
“I thought it was a baby rabbit that had passed away,” Rose shared in a Facebook post. Driven by curiosity, she approached and discovered it wasn’t a rabbit or squirrel, but a living creature – a baby kitten!
Rescuing the Tiny Kitten
The kitten was extremely small, possibly about five days old. Feeling a rush of adrenaline and responsibility, Rose knew she had to act. She picked up the kitten and placed it safely in her car. Though tempted to keep it immediately, she realized the kitten was too young to be away from its mother and possibly needed her care.
Concerned about the mother cat’s whereabouts, Rose called the nursery from the parking lot, but no one had seen any stray cats around. She decided to take the kitten home and planned to return the next day in hopes of reuniting it with its mother. Rose named the little boy Campbell, after the place where she found him.
A New Home for Campbell
Despite her efforts to find Campbell’s mother the next day, there was no sign of her. Accepting the situation, Rose committed to adopting Campbell. A vet visit confirmed that he was under a week old but in good health.
Rose posted her story on Facebook, which led to a friend connecting her with a cat that had recently had kittens. Arrangements were made for Campbell to join this new family, where a foster mother cat named Tully immediately accepted him as her own. It was heartwarming to watch their first interaction and see Campbell comfortably latch onto her.
Growing Up Happy
Campbell spent six weeks with his foster family, learning how to be a cat and playing with his foster siblings. After that, he was ready to move permanently to Rose’s home. Rose had no doubts about the adoption; she knew from the start that Campbell was meant to stay with her.
Today, Campbell is a joyful, healthy, and playful kitten, enjoying life with his new family. He’s a quirky little character expected to have a long and happy life with Rose, who found much more than a houseplant on her trip to the nursery.
