“Pepper does blend in a lot. She likes to lay on black clothing, my mother’s black purse, and in almost any dark place,” Joey added. The space under the stairs was just one of Pepper’s many favorite hideouts.

There were numerous occasions when her family would search high and low for her, calling her name repeatedly, sometimes even fearing she had slipped out or gone missing.
