During one of their routine searches, the SRSL team came across an abandoned house. It seemed like just another empty structure until they took a closer look and found a dog who had been desperately waiting for someone to come to his rescue.

Saved By The Bell
In a startling discovery, the team found the dog chained in the backyard of the abandoned property. He was left there with no food or water, only a doghouse filled with frozen water. The poor animal was curled up on the grass, shivering, trying to withstand the biting cold winds that made even short periods outside unbearable.
The Rescue Operation
Donna Lochmann, a devoted rescuer with SRSL, was particularly moved by the sight. She couldn’t understand why anyone would leave an obviously once-loved family pet in such a desperate state. The rescue team quickly sprang into action, using bolt cutters to free the dog from the heavy chain that tethered him.

Eskimo Joe’s Journey to Safety
After being rescued, Eskimo Joe was placed in Donna’s warm Jeep for what they affectionately termed his “freedom ride.” He enjoyed the heated seats, occasionally staring at Donna, perhaps in disbelief that his ordeal was finally over.
A New Beginning in a Foster Home
Upon arrival at the foster home, Eskimo Joe was given a thorough check-up by the veterinary team. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworm, but fortunately, this was a treatable condition. His foster family quickly fell in love with him. They described him as a gentle soul who, despite his past, was polite, crate trained, potty trained, and loved walks and cuddles.

Looking for a Forever Home
Eskimo Joe adapted well to life in a loving home, enjoying every bit of affection and comfort he could get. His foster mom was confident that it wouldn’t be long before someone would see the wonderful dog he was and decide to make him a permanent part of their family.
A Bright Future Ahead
His foster family said, “He is genuinely curious about the world around him and needs regular walks and time outdoors to quietly observe his surroundings now that he is no longer chained.” They are hopeful that soon, Eskimo Joe will find his forever home—a place where he can continue to thrive and receive the love he so greatly deserves.
