A visit to the Nunnery Veterinary Hospital in Summit, Mississippi, revealed that Shug was about a year old, heartworm-positive, and also suffering from hookworms and ear mites. Fortunately, the heartworm test showed only a slight positive, which meant she could receive preventative care after her puppies were born.
