It’s truly amazing how dogs, even when facing tough times, cling to a hopeful outlook. It seems they inherently know brighter days are ahead. This belief perfectly captures the essence of the dog in our story today. Despite being abandoned, this furry friend kept his smile, sensing a turn for the better in his life.

Left Behind but Unbroken

Meet Goose, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix whose spirit never dimmed, even in tough times. Goose’s journey took a pivotal turn when he was discovered tied to a fence, left with a note from his previous owners stating they could no longer keep him. Despite his situation, Goose greeted everyone with a smile, which made it hard for passersby to realize he was actually alone and abandoned.

When two people approached to pet him, they learned about his plight. Moved by his cheerful disposition, one of them decided to step up and offer Goose a new home.

Goose’s New Chapter Begins

Lindsey Hawkins, who became Goose’s foster mom, shared that the note left with him simply said, “Don’t have time. Just take the dog.” She did just that, but not before ensuring Goose received the medical attention he needed. He was quite dirty and covered in ticks, necessitating a visit to the vet. Over several days, vets carefully cleaned him up to avoid stressing him too much. Throughout the process, Goose remained friendly and unaggressive, perhaps sensing that the help he was receiving was for his own good.

A Fresh Start in a Loving Home

Excited to bring him into her home as a foster, Lindsey soon discovered Goose’s unfamiliarity with indoor living. He had spent his entire life outdoors, which made him wary of getting too close to furniture or walking on hardwood floors. Initially, he stuck to a rug in the living room or a carpeted hallway. However, it didn’t take long for him to warm up to his new environment and become close friends with his new siblings, including a flock of chickens and a senior therapy dog named Zeus.

Seeing the bond Goose formed with his new family, Lindsey knew he was there to stay. Goose expressed his gratitude in an endearing way by standing on his hind legs, placing his paws on her husband’s shoulders, and nuzzling his head into his chest as if to say, “Thank you.”

Within two weeks, Goose had fully adapted to indoor life, happily jumping onto Lindsey’s bed as if it had always been his own and overcoming his initial hesitation to walk on hardwood floors.

An Inspiring Journey to Joy

Despite all the challenges he faced, Goose never stopped smiling. His enduring joy and resilience are not only uplifting but truly inspiring. He’s even considering following in the paw prints of his therapy dog brother, Zeus, to spread comfort, joy, and love further as a therapy dog himself. Goose’s unbreakable spirit is a testament to the profound emotional resilience dogs can show, reminding us of the power of love and second chances.
