Dogs are known for their strong bond with their favorite humans. However, they can also form deep connections with each other, especially when they are part of the same family.
A Heartwarming Tale of Two Pit Bull Sisters
One of the best examples of this bond is the story of two Pit Bull-mix sisters who spent most of their lives together until one day, they were forcefully separated. The pregnant sister found a foster home, but despite all the love and care she received, she remained depressed because her sister wasn’t around.
Fortunately, thanks to some kind-hearted individuals, the two were reunited. The soon-to-be mother dog experienced her happiest moment when she was back with her biggest supporter in life.
Couldn’t Live Without Each Other
A dog named Erica was surrendered to a shelter in New York in September 2023. Her owner, who was homeless, could no longer care for her when she got heavily pregnant. The shelter quickly contacted Twenty Paws Rescue, a rescue organization based in Brooklyn, New York, to help find a foster home for Erica.
“They contacted us and said, ‘We have this super friendly girl who’s very pregnant, and she needs out of the shelter ASAP,'” said Rachel, the founder of Twenty Paws Rescue, in an interview with PEOPLE.
With their extensive network, they found the perfect foster home for Erica. Michael and Lora, from Coney Pet Grooming in Brooklyn, agreed to foster her until she raised her puppies.
At first, everything seemed fine, but Michael soon realized something was wrong. Erica was stressed and depressed, and they didn’t know why.
A Reunion That Changed Everything
The mystery was solved when Rachel received an email from the shelter where Erica had been surrendered. “You know, she was surrendered with her sister, and her sister won’t eat, drink, or walk. We have to carry her in and out. Would you consider taking her as well? She’s so depressed in the shelter,” the staff wrote about Erica’s sister, Diamond.
It became clear that both Erica and Diamond were suffering because they couldn’t live without each other. Thankfully, Michael and Lora, with their big hearts, agreed to take in Diamond as well.
Raising Puppies Together
Just two days after this joyful reunion, on September 29, heavily pregnant Erica went into labor. Throughout the entire process, her loving sister, Diamond, was by her side, helping her give birth to 13 puppies. Unfortunately, two were stillborn, but the remaining 11 were perfectly healthy.
Initially, Erica was very protective of her puppies and wouldn’t let Diamond come close. However, as time went on, she became exhausted from taking care of them alone. Diamond, ever the caring sister, stepped in to help.
“When we noticed Erica was getting exhausted and needed a break, and Diamond was lactating, we switched them out. Diamond took over as Mama Bear, loving, grooming, and feeding the puppies with great patience,” Rachel explained.
Michael added, “Diamond was super gentle and really loved the process.” Thanks to their combined efforts, they raised healthy and happy pups.
Finding Forever Homes
As soon as the puppies were old enough and ready for adoption, all 11 found their happy forever homes. Only Erica and Diamond remained, with special adoption requirements due to their inseparable bond.
Never Separated Again
The sisters had a hard time living apart for even a few days, so it was unimaginable for them to be separated for the rest of their lives. Because of this, those caring for them decided that Erica and Diamond could only be adopted together.
“It’s the only option,” Rachel said. “Everything they do, they do together. They go to doggy daycare together, snuggle on a bed together, and play together. They’re always side by side.”
Rachel expressed hope that a big-hearted family would soon come forward to recognize the beauty these two girls bring and give them the happiest ending.
Michael also agreed, stating, “They are very loving, affectionate, and playful dogs. They really do not ask for much but food and love.”
Wherever they end up, Erica and Diamond will undoubtedly bring blessings and unlimited love to their new home, and they will never be separated again.
Two Bodies, One Soul
Erica and Diamond’s story is a testament to the strong bonds that dogs can form with each other. Their journey from separation to reunion and their shared efforts in raising puppies showcase their incredible loyalty and love.
These two sisters are more than just pets; they are two bodies with one soul. Their story serves as a reminder of the deep connections that animals can share and the joy they bring to those around them.
