While journeying through a wooded area close to their home, a farmer named Josemar Milli and his wife encountered an unexpected sight. There, amidst the dense trees and near a toppled trunk, they found two baby parrots. These tiny birds were alone, vulnerable, and shivering on the chilly forest floor.

A New Home for the Parrots

This parrot, whom they named Louro, was never confined to a cage; she simply chose to stay. “Louro was free to leave whenever she wanted, but she never did,” Josemar shared in an interview with The Dodo. In their home, Louro found a permanent perch and a loving environment, often resting on Josemar’s shoulder, her favorite spot.
Unexpected Behaviors Spark Curiosity
Recently, Louro began exhibiting unusual behavior that caught Josemar’s attention. Typically, she would venture out during the day but always returned by evening. However, this routine changed when she missed coming home for three consecutive nights. During the day, she was observed staying close to a hollow wooden fencepost, a peculiar choice for the usually adventurous bird.
Driven by concern and curiosity about Louro’s new attachment to the fencepost, Josemar decided to investigate further. What he discovered inside the hollow post left him astounded.
A Heartwarming Discovery
Inside the post, Louro had not only made herself a cozy nest but had also taken on an unexpected role. Josemar found that Louro was looking after a litter of three adorable kittens. It appeared that a neighborhood cat had given birth in the nest and subsequently abandoned the newborns there. With her instinctive nurturing behavior, Louro managed to draw Josemar’s attention to these helpless kittens, signaling a plea for help.
Initially, Josemar attempted to reunite the kittens with their mother, but the cat consistently rejected them. Louro, showing unwavering dedication, stayed by their side, caring for them as her own.
