The Lonely Puppy Left Behind
Carlie Cahill first met Toad when he was just a tiny puppy, one of a litter playing and exploring with his siblings in a foster home in Oklahoma. One by one, Toad’s siblings were adopted, leaving him the last one without a home. Carlie, a true dog lover, couldn’t bear the thought of Toad feeling alone and sad, so she decided to step in and do something truly admirable.

The Perfect Match
Before making the adoption official, Carlie was already a familiar face to Toad, visiting him at her mother’s place, where Toad’s mom was placed in foster care after becoming pregnant. The mother dog delivered ten puppies, all but Toad quickly found their forever homes. When Toad was about six months old, Carlie didn’t hesitate to adopt him, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
A Bond for Life
Carlie remembers the day she adopted Toad vividly. “I think he was around 6 months old when I officially adopted him – but I met him right after he was born because my mom fostered, then kept, his mom! So he’s been with me most of his life,” Carlie shared on Instagram. Toad, now a sturdy Staffordshire Bull Terrier, continues to exhibit the kindness he’s shown since puppyhood. He greets Carlie’s friends with the happiest tail wags at the door. The good news continued as Carlie’s mom decided to keep Toad’s mother, ensuring frequent reunions and playdates until she moved out of state. Despite this, Toad’s cheerfulness never waned, his joy fueled by having Carlie by his side.

Despite his large size, Toad carries some sweet quirks, like bumping into cars despite having perfect vision, and getting startled by anything that moves during his walks, including leaves. However, his protective nature over Carlie is evident—he’s cautious around strangers, needing a proper introduction before warming up. But once he’s comfortable, he transforms into the most adorable, cuddly ‘lovebug’, as Carlie affectionately describes him.
A New Friend in the Family
Carlie’s recent adoption of a senior Chihuahua named Link brought new excitement to Toad’s life. He was thrilled to have a new playmate at home. Although Link tends to keep to himself, Toad hasn’t given up on showering him with affection and attempts to engage him in playful activities. Carlie finds their interactions endearing, even though Link prefers more tranquil moments.
