Cashmere, a pup, unfortunately, didn’t have a joyful start in life. Found in a basement alongside another dog, Cashmere was in dire need of someone who could show him care and remind him of his worth. Fortunately, his story took a turn for the better.
Rescued and Rehabilitated
Following his rescue, Cashmere was immediately taken to a veterinarian for a thorough check-up. Despite having a few bite wounds, he was deemed healthy enough for foster care. Although initially, a few people claimed to be his owners, these claims were unsubstantiated. Soon after, he found a family eager to adopt him.

Temporary Setback
Cashmere’s initial adoption seemed like the happy ending he deserved. However, due to his inability to get along with the family’s cat, he was sadly returned to the rescue. He was then taken in by the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC. It was here that Cashmere’s path crossed with Maya, who felt an instant connection with him. “As soon as I saw him, I said ‘Him! That’s my dog,'” she recalls.
Finding Forever Home

Despite his size, Cashmere’s heart is much larger, encapsulating the essence of a truly gentle soul. He not only found a loving home but also gained a furry sibling, Banana, another rescue pup. Together, they enjoy their time, especially Cashmere, who shows immense patience and affection towards his energetic little brother.
Pro Cuddler
Due to his challenging past, Cashmere developed some anxiety, particularly around new people, preferring the familiar comfort of his family. Yet, once he’s comfortable, he loves to stay close to his people, often in a loving yet slightly inconvenient manner.
Cashmere’s need for closeness doesn’t end there; he detests any barriers put between him and his loved ones. A small gate separating rooms becomes a significant hurdle for him, as he expresses his displeasure until he can be by their side again.

Emotional Support
Cashmere has an exceptional sense of when his humans need support. Observing tears in his mom’s eyes prompts him to come over and gently lick them away, providing comfort in his unique way. Additionally, during disagreements between Maya and Jonathan, Cashmere often steps in, placing a paw on one of them as if to mediate the situation and remind them of the love they share.
Moreover, when there’s affection to be had, Cashmere makes sure he’s a part of it, often inserting himself into moments of love between Maya and Jonathan, eager for some affection himself.
