When the villagers heard what they thought was a puppy’s bark, they quickly came to its aid, only to discover the sounds were coming from a tiny muntjac deer, not a dog. The young deer had wandered from a nearby forest and found himself in a dangerous encounter with a group of stray dogs.

Calling in the Wildlife Experts

Worried for the little deer’s safety, the villagers reached out to the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), a local wildlife rescue organization. The rescue team was quick to respond, bringing the deer, who they named Cha Lao, to their wildlife hospital for immediate care.

Nurturing a Tiny Survivor

At the hospital, veterinarians discovered Cha Lao was only a few days old and had likely strayed from his mother. Recognizing his vulnerability, especially after his scare with the stray dogs, the staff wrapped him in a blanket and fed him milk from a bottle, which he eagerly accepted, always licking his lips contentedly afterwards.

Cha Lao gradually began to feel more comfortable and enjoyed exploring his new surroundings at the hospital, although his first attempts at walking were shaky. The hospital staff were delighted to pamper him and help him gain the strength he needed.

Progress and Plans for the Future

The team at WFFT is thrilled with Cha Lao’s progress and remains optimistic about his full recovery. They continue to care for him until he is strong enough to return to the wild. They plan to release him in a carefully selected area where he will be safe from human threats.

It’s a joy to know that this charming little deer was rescued in time and is now thriving under the careful watch of his rescuers.
