The Last-Minute Miracle
Donna Lochmann, who has been rescuing dogs for years with the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, was tipped off by a local about a pregnant dog in a nearby deserted house. “We followed paw prints in the snow to an abandoned building where a Good Samaritan had seen a pregnant dog. The freezing temperatures were dangerously low, a deadly threat to any newborns,” the rescue team shared on Facebook.
Upon arriving, they searched the dilapidated house and found the dog huddled in a corner with her six newborn puppies. Despite the extreme cold, this brave mother had managed to keep her little ones warm.

Donna and her team carefully approached the mother dog, leashing her first to encourage her puppies to follow. Initially fearful and hesitant, the mother dog relaxed once she realized they were there to help.
The mother, later named Grammys, was safely rescued along with her puppies—whom the team whimsically named after major award shows like Emmys, Oscars, and Golden Globes.
A Warm Welcome in a Foster Home
After a thorough veterinary checkup, the entire dog family was placed in a foster home. This was the first time these pups ever experienced the warmth and comfort of a loving environment. “Look how relaxed they are now in the foster home. That abandoned house they were in was even colder than the air outside,” the rescue team noted on their social media.
Building Trust and Finding a Forever Home
In their foster home, these dogs received all the care and attention they needed to recover from their ordeal. The foster family provided them with plenty of tender loving care, helping them learn to trust and interact with humans. Once they are fully healthy and have regained their strength, Grammys and her puppies will be ready for adoption.
