One day, a woman from Northern Virginia decided to take her beloved dog for a stroll through the local forest, never anticipating the surprise encounter that awaited them. Her dog suddenly halted and refused to move forward, clearly indicating that something important was amiss.

She instructed the woman to wear gloves for safety, gently place the baby raccoon into a box lined with warm blankets, and wait nearby, giving the mother raccoon a chance to return and retrieve her baby.
“Reuniting mom and baby is always a priority,” Negron emphasized, underscoring the importance of keeping wildlife families together whenever possible. The woman followed these instructions meticulously, hopeful that the mother would come back for her baby.
A Joyful Outcome
After several hours of anxious waiting, the woman returned to check on the hidden baby raccoon. To her delight and relief, the box was empty—the mother had come back and taken her baby to a safe place. Overjoyed by this successful reunion, the woman quickly contacted Elizabeth Negron to relay the good news.
Negron was thrilled to hear that the mother raccoon was alive and well enough to care for her baby. “As much as I love having the babies in my care and taking care of them, because I truly do love what I do, it is always nice to know the mom is alive and healthy to be able to take her baby back,” she shared.
She further explained that for infant raccoons, the early weeks of life are heavily dependent on their mother and siblings. Being with their family is crucial not only for their survival but also for their emotional well-being and development.
