Brigette Brouillard was seeking a break from her usual routine of phone screens and animal care when she decided to hit the trails for a run. Little did she know, her run would soon take an unexpected turn. Three miles in, she stumbled upon a large cardboard box awkwardly placed just off the path.
An Unbelievable Find
Driven by curiosity, Brigette couldn’t just leave the box there; she had to see what was inside. Peering into the box, she was stunned to find it filled with six small animals—some furry, some bald. Despite her intention to take a break from animals, it seemed fate had other plans for her.

The Right Person at the Right Time
Interestingly, Brigette isn’t just any passerby; she’s the Executive Director at Second Chances Wildlife Center, an organization dedicated to wildlife conservation. It’s almost as if these little creatures couldn’t have found a better savior.
Unwanted Pets in a Park
Brigette soon realized that the animals were Guinea pigs—both the furry kind and hairless ones known as Skinny pigs. She understood that these animals are not native to her home state of Kentucky and would likely not survive without intervention. Left in Cherokee Park, they were at high risk of starvation or becoming prey.
A Timely Rescue
Realizing the dire situation, Brigette didn’t hesitate to take action. The box was too heavy to carry back to her car, so she managed to get help from a kind passerby who drove her and the “six talkative guinea piggies” to safety.
Securing a New Future
Once safe, Brigette’s network came through brilliantly. She quickly found loving homes for all six Guinea pigs, promoting their story on social media which garnered substantial attention and support. Her ability to place the animals into caring homes so swiftly speaks volumes of her commitment and the community’s support.
A Joyful Outcome
Brigette’s unexpected trail run turned into a rescue mission, culminating in a happy ending for the Guinea pigs. Now safe and settled with their new families, these little animals are bound to live out their lives surrounded by love and care, all thanks to a serendipitous discovery.
