Sweet Pea’s journey began under difficult circumstances. When she was just a few months old, she experienced a traumatic event that would shape the rest of her life. While out for a bathroom break, Sweet Pea was viciously attacked by a stray dog.
This assault left her with a fractured arm and numerous bite wounds scattered across her tiny body. Her owner, overwhelmed by the medical costs, was unable to provide for her treatment. With a heavy heart, they surrendered her to Fresno Bully Rescue (FBR) in Sanger, California. Here, under the compassionate care of the staff and particularly the director, Bridgette Nicole Boothe, Sweet Pea began her long road to recovery.
Heartbreak and Hope
Life seemed to look up for Sweet Pea when she was adopted into a new home. Unfortunately, this arrangement was short-lived. After spending a year with her new family, Sweet Pea found herself back at the shelter.
The family had had a baby, and Sweet Pea’s reaction to the new addition—mostly barking—led them to return her to FBR. Despite this setback, Sweet Pea didn’t lose her cheerfulness and soon, her resilience would be rewarded in an unexpected way.

It was during another uneventful day at the shelter that Sweet Pea’s life took a dramatic turn. Brittany and Danny Kehrer, a couple looking to expand their family of pets, walked into FBR. They brought along their male dog, Larry, possibly looking for a companion for him.
The moment they saw Sweet Pea, there was an undeniable connection. She exuded an enthusiasm that caught their attention immediately. Within minutes, Brittany and Danny decided to adopt her, sensing a special bond that couldn’t be ignored. They left the shelter as a family of four, embarking on a new journey together.

Sweet Pea welcomed her new sibling with open paws, thrilled to have another playmate. Despite not being the most fashionable dog, with her cropped ears and a slight facial deformity, Sweet Pea possesses an undeniable charm.
