Dogs deeply cherish their human families, often spending their whole lives surrounded by human affection. When this companionship is suddenly removed, it can be devastating for them.
A Heartbreaking Discovery
In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Janine Guido, who runs Speranza Animal Rescue, received a tip about a dog wandering alone. She found him scavenging for food in a dumpster.
Frightened, the dog fled to the porch of what used to be his home, puzzled why his family was not there to welcome him and feed him as before. He couldn’t grasp why they had moved away and left him behind.
Despite Janine’s attempts to coax him with food, the dog was disinterested, fixated only on his previous life and his humans.
It took a while before he realized that no one was coming to open the door. Hearing Janine’s reassuring voice, he eventually allowed her to leash him. Janine felt he understood her intentions as he calmly sat by her side.
New Beginnings at the Rescue
Now named Cupid, the dog needed time to adjust to his new surroundings at Speranza Animal Rescue. Though now in a place filled with caring humans and other dogs, Cupid was still haunted by his abandonment.
Nevertheless, his kind and gentle nature was evident, greeting everyone with a wagging tail.
Upon arrival at the rescue, Cupid was immediately taken for a veterinary check-up to ensure his health matched his adorable looks.
Ready for a New Home
After settling in, Cupid is preparing to find a permanent home where he will be cherished as he deserves. Given his sweet demeanor, finding someone to love him shouldn’t be difficult.
A Call to Responsibility
Cupid’s story is a touching reminder of the loyalty and affection dogs offer. Abandoning a pet is never acceptable. If you find yourself unable to care for your dog, please consider taking them to a local animal shelter where they can find another chance at happiness.
