To their surprise, it was a dog, shivering and trying to burrow into the snow to find warmth. This little makeshift nest, however, was hardly enough to protect it from the freezing temperatures. Rescue and Care
The rescue team found that the dog’s fur was heavily matted, which, ironically, might have been insulating her somewhat from the cold. Despite her situation, the dog was hesitant to leave the spot she had claimed in the snow. Understanding her discomfort and reluctance to move, the rescuers cleverly used a tarp to gently slide her over the snow and into their vehicle.
Once inside the car, the rescuers turned up the heat and drove her straight to a veterinary clinic to ensure she was okay. Upon examination, it was found that she was suffering from dehydration and a slight fever, but thankfully, her condition was stable and treatable.
A New Name and a New Home
At the shelter, the dog, now named Winnie, slowly began to show signs of recovery. She was initially timid, but the shelter staff sedated her to safely trim away her matted fur, which seemed to bring her immediate relief. As she began to look and presumably feel better, she warmed up to the people around her. One person in particular, a volunteer named Graham, formed a special bond with Winnie.
Graham was so taken with Winnie’s gentle nature and resilience that he decided to adopt her. Back at his home, Winnie quickly adapted to her new surroundings. She was introduced to her new dog siblings, and they all got along well, playing and sharing space comfortably.
