The shelter staff grew increasingly concerned as time passed without a single inquiry about Sky. “Sky hasn’t received ONE inquiry since arriving to us last November. No one has sent an email. No one has called about her. No one asks to visit with her. We have posted her multiple times…still nothing,” the shelter expressed in a Facebook post dated February 27, 2023. Despite her friendly nature, Sky was often overlooked due to her inability to be around other dogs.

On February 27, 2023, the shelter shared another update about Sky, emphasizing her qualities, “Sky is a wonderful companion and does great with all people and loves going for walks with our volunteers.” This post somehow struck a chord and quickly captured the attention of the public.
Sky’s Adoption: A New Chapter
The response was overwhelming. The phone at the shelter began ringing incessantly, with numerous messages and inquiries about adopting Sky. Joe Bice, the captain of the Stafford County Animal Shelter, shared the excitement, “The phone has been ringing off the hook all morning, a ton of messages and so many we can’t even get back to them.” Soon after, an update followed on the very same post: “UPDATE: SKY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!”
Sky’s New Family
The longest resident of the Stafford County Animal Shelter was adopted by Donna Crowder, who saw Sky as a perfect companion for her young autistic son, Joseph.
