A bunch of folks who love to bike were cruising along their favorite path when they spotted something odd. Right by the bridge, someone had left a cardboard box. Normally, a box by the road wouldn’t be a big deal. But this box was making some tiny, weird noises.

Curious, the group put their bikes aside and went to check it out. What they found inside the box was enough to break anyone’s heart. It was hard to grasp how anyone could do something so cruel.

Immediately, they whipped out their phones and called for help.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

Inside that shabby cardboard box were nine puppies, left there to fend for themselves. Six of these little guys were barely two weeks old, too young even to open their eyes. They were all covered in fleas and so hungry they were crying.

Thinking about these little pups thrown away like trash, all alone in a big scary world they couldn’t even see yet, was just crushing. They were just babies needing warmth and love, but instead, they got abandoned.

Thankfully, those bikers didn’t just ride past. They stopped and made sure these pups got a chance at life.

Quick Response from the Rescuers

On the chilly morning of March 11, the folks at PAWSsion Project got the call about the puppies. This organization always steps up to help animals no one else seems to want—animals that some people think are just disposable.

Despite already caring for over 600 animals at their two shelters, they couldn’t turn these puppies away. “It breaks our hearts every time,” said Malou Perez, who started PAWSsion Project. “But we’re also grateful we’re here to give these little ones a chance.”

The First Steps to a New Life

At the shelter, the first order of business was to get the puppies away from each other to stop the spread of any sickness and to clean them up—one tick and flea at a time.

They also had to feed the puppies by bottle every two hours, day and night, because they didn’t have their mom around to care for them. It was a tough job, but the folks at the shelter knew it was worth every second.

After two weeks of care, the puppies began to open their eyes and eat more. Their wounds from the flea and tick bites started healing, and they began to play and explore their surroundings.

“It’s always one of the most rewarding feelings,” Perez shared, smiling at the thought of the puppies starting to thrive.

Hope for the Future

The shelter is hopeful about finding loving homes for all the puppies once they’re old enough. They’re even trying to get some of the puppies adopted together. Finding the best possible homes for these pups is their top priority—they deserve no less after such a rough start in life.

As the team works toward this goal, they also remind everyone about the importance of spaying and neutering pets. This helps prevent situations where unwanted animals are left to suffer. They also stress the value of adopting animals instead of buying them. It’s a crucial step toward a better future for many innocent animals left in desperate situations.
