The Story of Prince
There was a three-month-old puppy named Prince who craved the same love and affection. He longed for his owners to dote on him and make him feel cherished.
Unfortunately, Prince’s story takes a darker turn. Throughout his young life, he was neglected by those who were supposed to care for him the most. When Prince fell ill, instead of receiving care and support, he was heartlessly abandoned by his owners and left at a high-kill shelter in Fresno, California.
Upon his arrival at the shelter, Prince was in a dire state, covered in mange and suffering from infections. As he lay in his kennel, the neglect he’d faced made him feel betrayed and in desperate need of someone to show him love and kindness.
Prince’s Hero Appears
In April 2018, Neda Saghafi, the founder of Simba’s Paw Dog Rescue, came across a Facebook post about Prince. The photo of him with a profoundly sad expression broke her heart, and she knew she had to help. She decided to foster the poor pup who not only suffered from mange but was also mysteriously covered in paint.
Initially, Saghafi suspected the paint might have been the work of cruel individuals using him as a bait dog, marked for illegal dog fights. This thought only strengthened her resolve to help him.
Rescue and Recovery
Saghafi went to the shelter to rescue Prince. Meeting him for the first time, she was struck by his sad green eyes, full of confusion and fear. She was determined to transform his life from one of sorrow to joy. She officially named him Prince and started on the journey to rehabilitate him.
When she brought Prince to the vet, it was speculated that the paint could be an outdated form of medication for treating farm animal infections, yet it was odd that it wasn’t applied more uniformly. Prince had random lines and a cross painted on his forehead.
A New Home for Healing
Saghafi welcomed Prince into her home, eager to nurse him back to health. His condition was severe: “He had demodex mange and a secondary skin infection. Touching him felt like touching a reptile due to all the scabs,” Saghafi described. Despite the challenge, she cared for him with all her heart, calling him her little “Chicken Nugget.”
Under her care, Prince gradually began to recover and shed his fears. Saghafi was overjoyed to see him thriving, his fur growing back, and his eyes regaining their sparkle.
Love Blossoms in Unexpected Ways
As Prince healed, he developed a deep bond with Saghafi. He loved to cuddle and would often give her kisses when she held him. This connection only grew stronger with each passing day.
In June 2018, another puppy was discovered in the same area where Prince was found. This puppy was deaf and also suffering from mange. Saghafi saw a resemblance between the two and believed this new rescue, named Cleo, might be Prince’s sister.
She didn’t hesitate to bring Cleo into her home, and the reunion between the siblings was heartwarming. They adored each other, playing and sticking together, with Cleo often following Prince around.
Finding Their Forever Homes
After both puppies had fully recovered, it was time for them to find their forever homes. Although Saghafi had grown incredibly fond of Prince and would have loved to keep him, she knew her role was to continue helping more puppies in need. Fortunately, both Prince and Cleo found loving families who promised to cherish them always.
A Happy Ending for Prince and Cleo
Prince and Cleo’s story ends with joy and a sense of security, as they both settled into their new homes. Prince even has his own Instagram account where he shares updates about his life in sunny California, surrounded by a family that makes him feel safe and adored.
