On a wet day in Selma, California, teenager Ubaldo Apolinar was intrigued by scratching sounds at his front door. To his surprise, he found a little puppy seeking refuge from the rain on his porch. Despite his eagerness to bring the puppy inside, his parents were not on board with the idea.
Puppy in Distress
Not one to give up, Ubaldo couldn’t just leave the puppy out in the cold. He noticed the puppy trembling from the rain and quickly fetched some food from his own dog’s supply.
“At first, she was a bit hesitant, but after I petted her, she began to trust me,” Ubaldo shared with The Dodo. He was determined to help the lost puppy, especially after seeing she still wore a pink collar, indicating she likely had a home that was missing her.
A Temporary Haven
Ubaldo took to social media, posting in local community groups in hopes of finding the puppy’s owner. While waiting for a response, he made sure the puppy was fed and clean. Although his parents and their rental agreement allowed for only one pet, this didn’t stop Ubaldo from spending time with her.
He crafted a makeshift shelter from a cardboard box for her to sleep in and even sneaked her inside at night to escape the cold. “I made her a little sweater from an old sock to keep her warm,” he added.
Joyful Reunion
The adventure came to a head when Ubaldo’s efforts paid off—the puppy’s owner reached out after recognizing her on social media. After verifying that the story was genuine, Ubaldo arranged a meeting to return the puppy, now known as Bubba, to her family.
Before parting, he enjoyed one last play session with Bubba in the yard. “She was so spunky and adorable,” he recalled fondly.
Bubba’s New Beginning
The reunion was a success, and Bubba was ecstatic to be back with her family. Fortunately for Ubaldo, Bubba didn’t live far, allowing him the opportunity to visit her anytime, keeping their newfound friendship alive.
