Once safe with me, I will have him evaluated by a veterinarian. As long as he does not need to be held as evidence (the finder will be reporting the abandonment to NYC animal control) the ferret will be looking for a new home once cleared by a vet,” she explained on her official Facebook page.

Further updates from the rescue revealed that Trash Panda was estimated to be between 6 to 8 months old and identified as a Marshall’s ferret—a breed known for its sweetness and friendliness. When the veterinarian’s report came in, it confirmed that although there were no severe medical issues, Trash Panda’s health was compromised. “Her heart rate was over 300 beats per minute, which is very fast for a ferret. She may be in shock, likely due to how long she was trapped in the bag without food or water,” the rescuer detailed in a Facebook update.
Initial blood tests also showed that Trash Panda was anemic and had low platelets, necessitating a period of medication.
