When Hope For Paws, a non-profit animal rescue group based in Los Angeles, California, received numerous calls and messages about an abandoned pup living in a park for several months, they knew they had to step in and give the dog a chance for a better life.
Loreta Frankonyte and Eldad Hagar, members of the rescue team, went to look for the pup one day but couldn’t find him. Eldad decided to return the very next morning upon hearing news about an impending major storm about to hit Los Angeles.
Luckily, this time, it was different.
A Successful Rescue Mission
As soon as Eldad arrived at the park, he immediately spotted the confused pup standing on the sidewalk.
Eldad took out some delicious treats and started feeding the pup, hoping to gain its trust and show that he was there to help.
The plan worked, and in no time, this sweet dog was eating out of Eldad’s hands. He managed to slip a leash over her head, and although she was startled at first, she soon calmed down, allowing Eldad to pick her up and put her in his car.
Eldad’s friend, Hayley Mysliwiec, suggested naming the pup Jolene, and Eldad agreed.
Heading to Safety
As Eldad was driving Jolene to the hospital for a thorough checkup, the storm broke out.
“The timing of this rescue couldn’t have been more perfect because just minutes after this rescue, a major storm that was scheduled for all of Southern California started. I’m so happy she doesn’t have to sleep outside tonight,” Eldad shared.
Even though the long drive made Jolene nauseous, causing her to throw up, everyone at the hospital greeted her warmly and nobody was upset with the little accident.
The very next day, Jolene went in for surgery, which turned out to be very successful.
A New Foster Home
Now, Jolene needed a warm and loving foster home to ensure that her recovery journey was as smooth and swift as possible. Luckily, she got just that.
The Animal Rescue Mission (ARM), an organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing animals, stepped in and offered to foster this brave pup until she recovered.
Finding a Forever Home
But ARM did much more than that!
In no time, Jolene regained her strength and was feeling better than ever. This allowed the ARM team to find her a loving forever home.
Jolene settled into her new home quickly, falling in love with her new family as soon as she met them. Now, she no longer has to seek shelter in a scary park. She has a warm home and incredible humans, along with a furry foster sibling named Meg, whom she loves playing with outside.
How You Can Help
If you, too, would like to adopt or help out a pup like Jolene, head to the Hope For Paws or ARM websites or visit your local shelter and offer your assistance. I’m sure they would appreciate it! Providing a foster home, donating, or volunteering your time can make a huge difference in the lives of these rescued animals.
Jolene’s story is a heartwarming reminder of the incredible impact that rescue organizations and compassionate individuals can have on the lives of abandoned and neglected animals. Every effort counts in giving these animals a second chance at a happy life.
