In California, the team from “I Stand With My Pack,” a dedicated non-profit organization, stumbled upon the injured little pup. The sight of her trembling, with her entire body and head covered in mange, was heart-wrenching for them.
They immediately took action, rescuing her and giving her the name Royal. A visit to the vet followed, where she received the necessary medications to start her healing process. After her medical visit, Royal was placed in a foster home to begin her recovery journey.
Fostered with Love
Courtney, an experienced foster parent, welcomed Royal into her home. Seeing the emaciated and fragile state of Royal saddened Courtney deeply, but she was determined to nurse her back to health. The first thing she did was give Royal a bath, possibly the pup’s first ever gentle human touch.
Royal quickly grew fond of her foster mom, enjoying her comforting cuddles, which likely felt like a novel experience for her.
Royal Shows Her Strength
With Courtney’s constant love and encouragement, Royal began to feel secure. She started relaxing more, eating well, and even snuggling up with Courtney in bed, showering her with puppy kisses. Courtney watched as Royal began to explore her new home, wagging her tiny tail with newfound happiness.
Courtney shared with The Dodo, “It was a crazy, crazy journey just to see her slowly come back to life. It took two months for her to start walking again, and another two months before her fur began to regrow.”
Gaining Confidence Through Friendship
During her recovery, Royal found another source of strength—a friendly dog named Shakes. Shakes taught her how to play, wrestle, and interact with toys, which was crucial for her social and physical development. This companionship not only helped Royal gain confidence but also contributed significantly to her recovery.
Royal Becomes Chicken and Finds Her Forever Home
As Royal healed, her eyes began to sparkle again with joy, and she started hopping around like a bunny in the grass. Courtney, witnessing this transformation, realized that Royal had captured her heart. She decided to adopt her, giving Royal—now renamed Chicken—a forever home and making her an official part of the family.
Courtney observed Chicken transform into a dog with a vibrant personality and loving nature. Chicken has a charming habit of rubbing her eyes every morning and night, a sight that Courtney cherishes.
Chicken’s New Life
Chicken now has her own Instagram account where she shares updates about her wonderful life in California. She’s become a beacon of joy and helps around the house by babysitting her foster siblings.
